It is important that all breast cancer treatment is holistic rather than just treating breast cancer. Breast cancer treatment can occasionally be leave physical, emotional and psychological after-effects that can be challenging for patients. It is important that these aspects of a patient’s recovery are addressed.
In my practice, I have shortlisted some support services that that have a good track record, these include:
Geneticist:
This is for patients and relatives whom are keen gene (BRCA1/2) mutation testing and obtain accurate their breast cancer risk calculation. This is provided by Check4Cancer.
Scar Therapy:
This service is provided by an accomplished, certified Scarwork therapist from the RESTORE group. I have found scar therapist to reduce the effects of surgery and radiotherapy i.e. pain and tissue stiffness on the breast. I have found Scar Therapy so useful for my patients that in fact, I am carrying out a large study at Mount Vernon Hospital to prove that scar therapy should be made part of routine post-breast cancer treatment regime.
Rehabilitation Exercise:
Delivered by a Pink Ribbon Exercise-certified specialist to help improve arm and joint mobility after breast and axillary surgery.
Physiotherapy:
For frozen shoulder and axillary cording.
Acupuncturist:
For joint pains and menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes that occur as a result of endocrine treatment and chemotherapy. I can provide a list of effective acupuncturist in Herfordshire and Central London.
Menopausal Clinic:
To help reduce the effects of treatment-induced menopause.
